The Swire Charitable Trust is an independent UK grant making trust. Since 1975 we have been supporting a wide range of charities that share our commitment to delivering positive and lasting change to UK society. We receive our funding from John Swire & Sons Ltd, the parent company of the Swire Group.

New Coronavirus Update
30 March 2020

We realise that the new Coronavirus outbreak is already having a profound impact on UK charities and we want to be as helpful and flexible as we can in the coming months. Whilst our office closed on 16 March, the Swire Charitable Trusts team is working remotely and can be contacted by email – either to your usual contact or to info@nullscts.org.uk.

Unfortunately we have not been able to retrieve any post sent to our office at Swire House since 13 March, so please could we ask you to bear with us or resend by email if possible. This is also true for mail sent to the Swire family charitable trusts (the Adrian Swire & John Swire 1989 Charitable Trusts, the SCS Trust and Swire 2765).

Whilst the Swire Charitable Trust funding programmes are still accepting online funding requests, applicants should be aware that we feel reluctant to make new grant awards until we have a better understanding of the challenges being faced, which may not be until June at the earliest.

Our Trustees have taken the difficult decision to postpone Grants Meetings scheduled to take place in April and May. We would recommend that if you are planning to submit a funding request to us, that you perhaps wait until we have published clearer guidance on the timing of future meetings, so that applications can reflect up-to-date delivery plans.

Our priority currently is to get funding to where it is needed – to the UK’s most vulnerable. In the short-term this means that the Swire Charitable Trust and the Swire family trusts are supporting the National Emergencies Trust’s Coronavirus Appeal, which we see as a sensible and powerful response in these challenging times.

To our current grant holders:

We understand that many of you will be adapting the way you work, and this may make it difficult for you to deliver as planned or meet the projected outcomes of your grant. Please do keep us updated, we are happy to consider requests for the repurposing of our grants, but please could you seek our approval before doing this.

We refined our programmes in the Summer of 2019. Before you apply, please take a moment or two to better understand who we are, what we do and the details of our online application process.
