Grow

Grow is a dynamic charity which works with disadvantaged young people who have been through adverse childhood experiences. Many of these young people struggle with their mental health, feeling isolated from society. They often lack self-esteem and become disengaged from training and employment opportunities, unable to unlock their true potential.

The charity works carefully to draw these vulnerable young people out of their shells with an intensive programme centring around a community farm. Young people are offered meaningful skills training and work experience while also encountering the profound therapeutic benefits of working with nature, helping them to boost their mental health. During the eight-week programme Grow provides group and one-to-one coaching sessions, as well as practical help with CV writing and interview preparation. After the programme ends the charity continues to offer an impressive level of support to each participant, including peer support sessions to reduce social isolation, help and advice with applications and in-work support when their beneficiaries find jobs.

In December 2019, the Swire Charitable Trust awarded Grow a grant of £14,856 towards their Youth Development Programme, enabling more vulnerable young people to overcome their past experiences, gain confidence in their own abilities and move towards a more fulfilling life.
