Coaching for care leavers in London

In 2024 over 48,000 young people left care, with many not in education, employment, or training, and more than 4,300 facing homelessness. Care leavers are also significantly overrepresented in the criminal justice system, with over 50% of care experienced young people obtaining a criminal conviction by the age of 24, compared with 13% of children who have not been in care. Young people leaving care at the age of 18 often face a cliff-edge, with a loss of structured support and stable accommodation, and without adequate skills to be independent.

Through their flagship coaching programme, Settle work with young people leaving care using tailored one to one coaching, teaching and supporting them to achieve their own goals, and to develop life skills and financial management skills to live independently. They also give the crucial consistency and emotional support that most young care leavers lack as they go through a challenging transition period. By working with young people to help them find their own solutions to their problems and build their own goals, young people increase their resilience and become better equipped to be independent.
